katie malinski parenting book group whole brain child austinBy Dan Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson.
3-part book group for parents

This book is my absolute favorite parenting book for kids of any age.  The lead author, Dan Siegel, is the founder of the “Interpersonal Neurobiology” movement and author of dozens of books on the human brain, attachment, and relationships.  This book, written in conjunction with another really savvy and experience researcher (plus she’s a mom and apparently a great writer!) is the most accessible, practical, and useful of all of his books.

In book group meetings, there will be time to discuss the book, and I’m available to offer an overview of the basic lessons from that section if anyone hasn’t been able to finish the section.  We will also discuss thoughts and actions and feelings, and perhaps more importantly, how to put these ideas and concepts in to practice. Please do bring questions or stories to share.  :^)

You can buy the book on Amazon here: http://tinyurl.com/8ms7gvl  or check it out at the Austin Public Library (they have several copies.)

Reading recommendations:

  • for 1st meeting: read through page 65 (everything up to & including Chapter 3)
  • for 2nd meeting: pages 66-118 (all of Chapters 4 & 5)
  • for 3rd meeting: pages 119-end.  (all of Chapter 6 & the conclusion)
